Please advise which "radiant" deck to choose?

Post by HermitSpiritus »

I really love RWS decks with original old images (eg Centennial Edition). But now I want to buy a deck with bright colors. I choose between Radiant and Universal decks (US Games). In the first, I like the colors and smoothness of the lines, but on it the faces of people are drawn a little differently from that of Pamela Colman Smith. The second is closer to the original, but not "radiant" enough.
How do you like these two decks? What do you advise?
And I know there is also a Radiant Wise Spirit deck (Lo Scarabeo), but its drawing lines are too rough.

I don't have either one but I just had a look at the US games site and compared them and my taste runs more toward the Universal.

It's intense without being garish.

But I can see the appeal of the Radiant. It's just not my cuppa.

Yes, the Universal deck looks like it was painted with crayons.

If you want bright colors, have you looked at the Albano-Waite? It's rad.
I believe in Crystal Light.

Thanks, looked. It's too acid and solid for me. :)

Why not get the original, and still the best, Yellow Box? IMO, the Radiant is stupid and the Original is ugly. The Yellow Box is rad.
I believe in Crystal Light.

I have the radiant waite. I just find it too blue,
I loved the universal waite for longg time.
I also love a good clone, or retake on the imagery.
The unversal waite by lo scarebo
Or the pictorial key to taraot.

I think I'd go for Radiant if the bright colors were the biggest appeal.

I am personally using the Universal Waite as my RWS deck because I have a soft spot for Mary Hanson Robert's style, but the Hanson-Roberts deck itself is more useful to me for creative writing than divination. I consider Universal kinda "cozy" and that's good for my 2020 nerves.
Tarot is a great and sacred arcanum- its abuse is an obscenity in the inner and a folly in the outer. It is intended for quite other purposes than to determine when the tall dark man will meet the fair rich widow.”

I really loved my Radiant Rider-Waite deck until a tarot instructor pointed out that the bright coloring tends to cover up a lot of the detail that's featured in the original artwork. I used a Giant Rider-Waite deck to do a card-by-card tarot study, and the amount of detail that's lost in my radiant deck now makes me a little sad.

I still love the vivid colors, but I wish that they could've been more careful with slathering it on.
I'm differently helpful.
