Devil's Advocate - Introduction

Do you possess a controversial or unpopular opinion?
This is the place for you.
Forum rules
Greetings Trouble Makers.
This is the place where you can ask the difficult questions, raise some issues, be controversial, rattle some cages.

You just have to follow a few simple, fairly obvious rules:

1. The topic you bring up MUST be in some way tarot related (or Oracle, Lenormand, etc of course)

2. You can be controversial without being rude. The occasional emoji or accompanying image can do a lot to help you get your point and ideas across the way you mean them. Think of emojis as "clarifiers."

3. Let's all assume we all mean well. Sometimes, in writing words can come across harsher than they were meant (see rule 2 for help with this) but let's try to help each other gain clarity and not let discussions turn into arguments.

4. If you find yourself becoming heated about something here, go for a nice relaxing walk or something before replying. It's just an internet forum.

5. Stay open minded.

That should be enough for this to run smoothly.

Oh wait: VERY Important

6. This space is not for personal beefs with individuals. You can discuss the ISSUE but naming names in any derogatory way ain't gonna fly here. That's what Facebook is for. πŸ’š

Devil's Advocate - Introduction

Post by Joan Marie »

🎡Please allow mw to introduce myself. 🎡
This new section is dedicated to those controversial or unpopular opinions that you might otherwise hesitate to bring up.

You know you have them.

There are a few simple rules, posted at the top but since a lot of people don't see the pink box for some reason, here they are:

ALSO: Please reply to this post with your favourite Devil card Images. I will use them in the rotation of images in the permanent link to this forum I have on the home page.

Your opinion on this is, of course, also welcome.

Let's have some fun!

I stumbled upon the following devil card image a couple years ago, and it has been my favorite ever since (although honorable mention must be given to Patrick Valenza's devil cards from his Trionfi Della Luna Tarot).

I believe this image was created by the artist Tadahiko Kawaguchi (Hesomoge) who also created the The Blue Birds' Tarot. From what I have been able to find out (so far), it does not yet appear to be part of a completed deck.

Although I have never liked The Blue Birds' Tarot quite enough to add it to my collection, I would like to see the artist create a deck more in the style of this devil card. That would make me part with some money. :D

While I'm considering my controversial opinions, at least of the Tarot variety πŸ˜‰, here's a favourite Devil of mine, from the Winter Waite Revised Edition -

Although I have already submitted a devil card image, I found another unusual image from my collection that you might wish to add to your rotation, as it is one that some might not have seen before.

This devil card is by the artist Toshiko Tuchihashi. It is from a β€œmajors only” deck published in Japan (around 1990) under the English title of β€œTarot 22.”

That's a cool card. Perhaps it speaks to my problems that I don't understand why it's controversial.

I recently received the Zombie Tarot as a gift, and found the imagery interesting. Here's the Devil from that deck:

I'm not normally a fan of Anime or Manga decks, but the Cruel Thing Tarot by Luciano Vecchio (pictured immediately below) has a strong gothic element that I find appealing.

@Pen Thank you so much for posting the Stella's Tarot devil card. I had that one on my list. Such a stunning image!

@JudyK Thanks much for posting the Autonomic Tarot. I always like being introduced to tarots that I was not aware of. I will definitely need to add this one to my collection. The art reminds me a little of Vladimir Tesar's, whose oracle deck I was lucky enough to find last year.

Someone posted pictures of it and I was stunned to learn that it was published in the UK (where I am) and I'd never heard of it before. Immediately set about getting a hold of a copy. πŸ™‚ What I love about it, apart from the weird-and-wonderful artwork, is that it's a "stripped" tarot - trumps + Aces + 10s. And I agree, the art style is similar to the TesaΕ™ cards. That may have been part of the attraction. 😎

Here is another Devil who has volunteered to join your rotation. This one is from a lovely Majors-only deck called L'Escalier d'Aton (The Staircase of Aton) by Viviane SΓ©rard.
