Rachel's DoW 21 Tarot of the Silicon Dawn

Post by Rachelcat »

This is an amazing deck in so many ways. The artwork is wonderful and unique. When you look through the deck or use it, you feel like you’ve entered its own little world. The innovations are fun and profound. There is a 99 of each suit and extra majors, including 8½ and several Fools. (And some of them are X-rated.) Wands are earth and pentacles are fire, while maintaining RWS-influenced illustrations for their appropriate suits. And it works! Most notable is the uv coating, which adds shiny lines with no color to some of the cards. Most notable of those are the Void cards, which are completely black but have illustrations consisting of the shiny lines. These are 4 extra courts and some majors. I can’t wait to use this deck and share it with you all!

Sunday New Deck Interview

Sunday.jpg

Deck’s most important characteristic: The Lovers
You either love it or hate it! It’s definitely not traditional, but it is: showing three figures on the Lovers card is very Marseille traditional, but these are not your mother’s lover between vice and virtue! With the hands reaching out below, I think this is a card of desire more than romantic love or choice.

Deck’s strength and weakness: 0 of Void and Title Card
The addition of a Void suit is a strength of the deck. While they are mostly negative, as befits their title and color, this one is beautiful and inspiring: at the beginning of the very earliest beginning, a tiny butterfly comes through, bringing everything into being and into action.

When I first got the deck, I decided to include all the cards, including a card that is the same as the backs (a white galaxy on a black background), a negative image of that, and this title card. (There’s yet another title card that I left out.) You might not be able to see it, but the title card has a faint line of color through the center of the galaxy, and you can’t see the shiny bits make a design around and over the author name and around the border of the card. I don’t know how this is a weakness of the deck, unless the sheer multiplicity of cards can be a drawback to how inventive the “regular” cards of the deck are. Or the weakness is mine in leaving a card in the deck without figuring out what it means!

What I can learn from the deck: 10 Wands
Too much power, from too much money, can make people cold and self-involved. (See how I put both wands and earth in there!)

How I can learn it: 4 Wands

Interesting that I got wands for these positions. I do want to learn more about this unique suit! I can learn by holding everything within. Let it incubate inside before I try to explain it. It looks like she’s standing at an altar, and the wands are definitely a barrier: are they keeping her in or keeping others out?

Outcome of my working with this deck: 10 Cups
It will definitely be love, not hate! I actually already love it. But I’ll also get to share my love with all of you! This reiterates the 3 people on the Lovers card rising up in love. On this card, the raised, shiny lines follow the lines of water falling from the people’s tails, so you can kind of see what they are like in that way.

I really look forward to using this deck this week. The strangeness (and sexiness in some of the cards) makes it difficult to use for readings in real life, so thank you for playing along and helping me give it the use it deserves!

Monday Why the Who is in the What

Monday.jpg

Ace of Cups, Chevalier of Void, 3 of Swords, Moon

In the realm of emotions, liquid, and feminine growth and nurture, I’ve given up hope and have no fire, walking away from the sun. (Chevaliers are fire, and this is the void = no fire.) What a wild 3 of Swords. The dinosaur woman has laid her eggs already, so she just laughs, even when her womb is pierced by swords. This moon is definitely about illusion, but Anubis is doggedly swimming through it. Maybe he’ll understand more when he gets to the other side. That’s a really big scorpion tail.

I don’t have any idea what all this means to me. I’m just looking at the pretty pictures! I’ll put in the book description of the void card, since you can’t see it in a photo.

“The sun sets behind and woodcut sea, its fires fading into the inky blackness. No stars are coming out. And an androgynous Chevalier turns away from the cliff’s edge, dropping a peacock feather. But look at the feather’s shadow; it’s a sword. Was this a smart choice? Was this a just one?”

I’ll have to let this simmer in my mind, like Anubis swimming in the reflection of the moon. In the meantime, have a happy Monday, everyone.

Tuesday Why the Who is in the What

Tuesday.jpg

Ace of Pentacles, Princess of Swords, 10 of Wands, Hermit

In the realm of work and striving, I’m overthinking, as usual, about the difference between a competence and wealth. (Sense and Sensibility, anyone?) But I don’t really need to worry about what other people have or have not. I just need to worry about providing for myself. And I perfectly fine in that area. So I’ll be like the intrepid hermit, stepping through the time travel portal with glee, knowing she has everything she needs to take care of herself.

Still loving this deck!

Have a safe and healthy day!

Wednesday Why the Who is in the What

Wednesday 2.jpg

Ace of Pentacles, Queen of Void, 5 of Cups, 8½

I didn't include 8½ in the photo because it's very self-consciously intentionally pornographic.

I’m in the energetic realm again. This time I’m just playing a part, but what am I when I take off the mask? Romantic dreams that the media sells are not good for me. I could fall off into the desert of nothingness. It’s just porn for women and/or sensitive people. It’s 8½ because it’s between Lust and the Hermit. The book says it’s also between the Priestess and the Devil. A temptation to believe that ones desires and wants are really sacred intuitions?

Here’s the description of the Queen of Void: “A parched desert, cacti reaching for the dark sky like hands. In the waste is a party, smiling faces talking and drinking. But the glasses are all empty, and when it’s time for the Queen to unmask beneath the midnight sky, all that’s beneath is ripples of nothingness.”

Thursday Why the Who is in the What

Thursday.jpg

Ace of Swords, King of Swords, 8 of Swords, Fool

Well, a very swordsy, very airy day! In this deck, kings are air, and in my pips system, 8s are Mercury/air. And usually the Fool is air (even though this one looks kind of fiery).

In the realm of thoughts and plans, I’ll be confidently cruising along in my clean, spare spaceship. I like the gears on the Ace. A good way to show thoughts and plans. Wheels within wheels. I’ll be cutting off emotional baggage like a samurai, which might be a bit excessive, but I’ll enjoy it while I do it. And I need to get my nose out of a book so I don’t walk off a cliff. This is one of the best uv coated cards: Even though she’s about to step off a cliff, and her dog is howling his warning, she has invisible butterfly wings. So even if she starts to fall, she can save herself and start anew in a different form. Airy after all!

Have a wonderful Thursday!

Friday Why the Who is in the What

Friday.jpg

Ace of Cups, Queen of Void, 6 of Coins, Empress

Three of the four cards show women wearing masks. I guess I need to beware of being phony or covering up my feelings. But I am still in a position to be generous and helpful to people. I just need to make sure my motives and presentation are good. I don’t want my help to seem like it’s because I’m better than anyone, just luckier. I can be nurturing and giving and not give myself airs about it. And even if I’m not so sure of where I am myself.

I’ve had a lot of repeat cards this week, but it didn’t seem appropriate to do extras as I have in other weeks. I guess because there’s so much to dig into in these cards!

Have a happy Friday, everyone!

Last readings for this deck. I struggled with it more than I have in the past. That's why there are so many different decks, I guess!

New Moon in Gemini Honey Moon Spread

Saturday 1.jpg

I demand a recount! Well, let’s try to read these, and I might do another because I’m really not satisfied with any of the cards except the second.

What have I committed to? Galaxy, card back
This card is the same as the card backs. It’s the same on both sides. I’ve committed to everything and nothing. If you commit to everything, it’s the same as nothing because you can’t do everything. And it’s nothing because it’s just the back of the card. No content.

How am I receiving support? 3 Cups
I am definitely receiving support from my friends in the form of friendship. My friends might not like, know, or understand what I’m trying to do with my life, but they’re just my friends through it all. I am blessed.

How am I offering support to others? Moon
I offer imagination and mystery, to my friends and to others. I’ve been doing readings for charity this month, and I think people are excited to get a glimpse of the mysterious, even if it’s really just me yammering about their love life. It’s a way to help them through this time and just something different to think about.

Opportunities available to me. Fortune
This deck two Wheel of Fortune cards, Fortune and History. This one is the fortune teller and perhaps the unknown future, or fate meaning a future that’s out my control. Maybe the opportunity is to be a real fortune teller? Do more readings? More seriously? Or understand fate: what I can control and what I can’t.

How can I embrace these opportunities? Devil
Take a risk that might seem dangerous at the time, but will turn out to my advantage in the end. Or not.

The honey that will be created. 7 Cups
This is definitely your Uncle Al’s Debauch. And definitely not what I want to create. And if I go with a straight numerological meaning, it’s not much better: too much emotion, wallowing, in love with love.

Ok, so maybe the rest of the cards aren’t so bad after all, but I’m still going to redo the whole thing. I can’t stay with this for a whole month, or two weeks.

Second time around

Saturday 2.jpg

Well, this is only marginally better, but I’ll take it. In combination with the other of course.

What have I committed to? 8 Swords
I am committed to an intellectual understanding of life. It might be too one-sided, but for now, it’s 100 percent better than too one-sided the other way (7 Cups).

How am I receiving support? Fortitude
I am supporting myself, and my whole edifice. And that’s the way I like it. Only occasionally distracted by the cat behind me!

How am I offering support to others? 10 Swords
Umm, I’m not very good at offering support, am I? I only mouth old, worn out platitudes that everyone says and no one believes. And I think that’s support.

Opportunities available to me. 5 Swords
I have the opportunity to give up my set ideas and give in to confusion. Beginner’s mind. It’s always there, and it feels like losing your favorite things, but it’s really opening up to new and better things.

How can I embrace those opportunities? Fool
One of many Fools in this deck, this is a superhero who is having trouble saving herself. But she also has invisible butterfly wings, so she can save herself if she trusts herself. I can embrace the opportunity of beginner’s mind by not acting like I know everything and that I can help YOU. I can barely help myself. And realizing that.

The honey that will be created. Judgement
Gabrielle is blowing her horn, and everyone is rising up. I can rise above where I am now, and my current set-in-my-ways thinking. If I follow all the advice above!

Onward to a new week and a new month!
