Fanciful Lenormand: Sign Ups

Post by Joan Marie »

Greetings everyone and welcome to 2020!

Last year we got started on what we were calling "Fictive" readings using Lenormand. And it was so much fun. I was never crazy about the word "Fictive" though so I have changed it to "Fanciful Readings." I think it better reflects the nature of what we are doing, but I am not married to that word so please, if you have any suggestions share them.

The name aside though, the procedure is the same:

Here's how it works: The sitter poses as a character from fiction. It can be from a book, TV show, Movie, legend, whatever you like. The sitter then poses a question to the reader that the fictional character would ask based on their situation. (Don't name your source, really pose the question as if you are the character looking for answers.)

The reader then tries to answer the question using any Lenormand spread they choose. I found starting with 5 or 7 cards to work best.

Using a fictional character, you can really work with some interesting questions that, fortunately or unfortunately, would not likely come up in our real lives.

Also, since there are no real stakes, readers can really "say what they see" without worrying about any real-life repercussions. This can be really freeing.

Afterward, you can discuss the reading very objectively and compare styles and techniques openly, helping each other to learn and understand.

If you want to see an example, check out the readings from November. You'll get a feeling for how it works and also how much fun we had. You'll also see some of the really astonishing results we got.

I hope you'll join us! This is a great exercise for beginners and experienced Lenormand readers alike.

BTW- if you want to play but don't have a Lenny deck (yet) there is a 5-card computer draw on my website you can use. (scroll down a little bit, you'll see it.)
You can take a screenshot of it for your post OR just name the cards and I'll post them for you.

Sign me up for Jan, please, JM. "Fanciful" is definitely more appealing than "fictive".

Joan Marie, you proposed in another thread that I may enjoy this reading group. And I agree, it could be a lot of fun. But I know NOTHING about the Lenormand and don't have time to study it. Lenormand is a very nice oracle and it's been tried and tested and it works so I really have no objections to it. I think it's the Empress of Oracles.

So if I join this month's group, I have no background and I'll join in with nothing in my hands and head. Only the pictures on the cards and the few little lines in the LWB. So it may end up being more of a spoof than anything else. I don't think any reading I could do with it could be taken seriously. I may just end up being the resident clown.

So I don't know what to do. I'd use the Friar's Delight I think and not the ancient deck that I found the other day in a drawer. But I fear that anyone who partners with me will not get much out of it.
Rumi was asked “which music sound is haram?” Rumi replied, "The sound of tablespoons playing in the pots of the rich, which are heard by the ears of the poor and hungry." (haram means forbidden)

You have everything you need for this Diana.

Friar's Delight (if I can say so myself) is the perfect kind of deck for this exercise because of it's playful vibe. And the LWB it came with will give you all the information you need.

There is nothing to fear, only to learn and have fun doing it. This is really almost more of a workshop.

Just be ready to be surprised!

So glad you are joining us!

Oh, well if it's a workshop then that's okay. Just need to bring a bit of the Bateleur/Magician touch to it then. That aspect of the Magician is the domain of Ptah, the Egyptian creator god who existed before all other things and, by his will, thought the world into existence. It was first conceived by Thought, and realised by the Word: Ptah conceives the world by the thought of his heart and gives life through the magic of his Word.

Ptah was the god of craftsmen so workshops are right up his street.

Oooh! Sign me up. I really can't resist, and lately I've been fangirling on Rana George YouTube videos all over again. I need more Lenormand in my life. Thank you!
