Interesting connection to ancient Greece. Also, your prior post about the crow as an alchemical symbol fits in -- the bagpipe sac is like a retort in its hollow container quality, here letting in and out the life-breath or life-air, a great step in the alchemical "Great Work" -- from "Putrefaction" (crow) to "Greening and Growing" or the rhythmic life-breath or life-air ( see [Splendor Solis, "The First Treatise" as to putrefaction and greening ). Of course, there are steps in between, but this is the Alpha and Omega of Alchemy. Incidentally, as you may well know, alchemical symbolism is sometimes quite grotesque, like those at first glance horrific Sola Busca images such as the 3 of wands. The whole Sola Busca could be all about Alchemy.
