The second expansion pack for the Mildred Payne Secret Pocket Oracle just shipped. My deck may soon grow too thick for the bag, I might have to sew a custom one. Between the deck, the two expansion packs, and couple of other cards that were sent singly, the SPO will now number 80-odd cards.

It's such a fun deck, with a backstory and lots of bells and whistles: a letter, photos, puzzle backs...

It's unique in that while each card features a single clear image, much like Lenormand does, there is no established method for reading the SPO. There is a paper included with the original deck with suggested meanings, but they aren't required. It's a flying-by-the-seat-of-the-pants deck. But it still reads true, more often than not.

Here's a reading I blogged not long after I got the deck. There was someone at work who was absolutely unbearable for any of us to have around. I received both the Pocket Oracle and the Oracle of Black Enchantment last week, and I really love both of them. Thus far, I've only used the Pocket Oracle in conjunction with the Deviant Moon tarot deck. It wasn't intentional - I did them as separate spreads, but they seemed to intertwine during interpretation. On a funny note, they came in Thursday's mail, and one of the extra cards in the box was the Pocket Oracle Pitchfork card. On Friday, I was going to a meeting involving my boss, who is on his way out (and not soon enough, in my opinion) so I stuck the Pitchfork in the clear back of my phone case, as a symbol of my opinion of how the meeting should go.

The Black Enchantment deck I love because each card really tells a story. When I first got them, I didn't have the document with the card meanings, so I was making up names and meanings for them. I had decided that card 16 (The Execution) should be called "First time?" and card 43 (Twilight Riders) should be called "Girl's Night!"

I do not have any of the expansion packs. Do you recommend getting them?
