Jean Dodal - Dusserre vs. Kartograme

Post by Papageno »

I was unaware that there are two versions of the venerated Jean Dodal, one housed in the Bibliothèque Nationale de France (published by Dusserre) and the other residing at the British Museum (published by Kartograme under license from the British Museum).

It'll be fun taking out my Dusserre and comparing those cards to the Kartograme edition.

BTW......I would love to have someone explain to me what EST signifies underneath the BN seal at the bottom of the Dusserre printing.

Thank you in advance.

EST = export stamp.
[Edit: not because of the initials; "est" is short for "l'éstranger" i.e. abroad.]

Bonjour all,

EST means Estampe because cards are part of Cabinet des Estampes a division of BnF Bibliothèque Nationale de France.
Previously B.R for Bibliothèque Royale.

Thank you for sharing this video. I was not familiar with either Musings by Mascha or Kartograme and look forward to following both. now.
Tarot is a great and sacred arcanum- its abuse is an obscenity in the inner and a folly in the outer. It is intended for quite other purposes than to determine when the tall dark man will meet the fair rich widow.”
