Tarot and High Fashion

Post by Joan Marie »

I saw these images posted on facebook by Il Meneghello, of what I think is his Vachetta deck, being used as part of a window display in Milan for Dolce and Gabbana.

I think this is just amazing and I understand Il Meneghello is thrilled.

what a major coup for Meneghello 🤩

I understand that Cristina Dorsini who has taken over their operations is overseeing a major overhaul and redesigning the website.
It will certainly be fun to see the unveiling.

yes, they used both the Vacchetta and Soprafino.

thanks for posting that 👍

£220 for 100ml... The bottle is attractive but the top looks like part of a squashed egg carton. Still I guess it's the scent that counts, and although the one I'd associate with the RWS fool could well resemble the description of the perfume by author of the piece, Le Mat on the TdM card on the front of the box stimulates quite other olfactory imagination.

Tarot has become very mainstream lately - I think I preferred earlier days. ;)

Il Meneghello's display is ravishing though.

I think that is an important point.

The commercial use of anything we hold dear or special is always touchy ground. I posted these pics on twitter and a lot of people really hated it. Although by far most really loved it.

But I admit when I see real artists use the tarot in their art, I find it exciting. The mix here of Tarot, fashion and window dressing really is ravishing.

Here is a post I made a while back about some amazing cards that were designed to promote the recording artist Halsey.

And by the way, the tweet I made about this was by far the most commented on post I've made to date, with almost 2,000 like and 500 retweets.

Beautiful art is just that.
Many people love to watch Tarot reading sequences in films or films about Tarot, HBO Carnevale or The Ninth Gate are prime examples.
The commercialization of Tarot in films or literature is no different than appreciating beautiful Tarot inspired art on perfume or wine labels IMHO.
Peace. ✌️

Isn't the Tarot publishing industry another example of commercialization?

Should we demonize and cast stones at U.S. Games Systems, Lo Scarabeo, Il Meneghello, Giordano Berti, Yves Reynaud, Heron, Piatnik, Grimaud, Dusserre, Sullivan Hismans, Les éditions SIVILIXI.......just to name a few.

or how about Game Crafter and other venues that give independent Tarot artists a chance to get their wonderful artwork published affordably.

Agreed. You can't be too precious about it.

Advertising, packaging, window dressing, are all art forms.

The Dior video is so incredibly, beautifully brilliant and magical that I can't watch the others now - too blown away. The credits at the end took more than 3 minutes...

I'm not sure that I should watch the last one about its creation for some time - maybe never - don't want to lose the magic.

Yes, beautiful and thought-provoking! It got very alchemical there at the end. Thank you for sharing!
